The Canon EOS Rebel T5i camera, which in Europe carries the badge Canon EOS 700D was released in April 2013. It came as something of surprise as the Canon Rebel T4i (Canon 650D) had only come to the market in 2012. The prognosis for this early upgrade may be that a new STM kit lens was launched too. These new STM (Stepping Motor Technology) lenses are particularly suited to cameras capable of video as they have near silent motors and are fast at tracking and focusing moving subjects.
The Canon EOS Rebel T5i (occasionally misquoted as the Canon Rebel T51) is what Canon refer to as a Beginner’s Camera. Suiting those new to DSLR photography it is an Easy-to-Use camera with High Quality Movie and Full HD Photo Functions. The incredible image quality and performance is the result of its 18.0 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor and the acclaimed DIGIC 5 Image Processor. Combined with an extensive ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600 in H mode), the Rebel T5i boasts crisp, detailed images with minimal noise even in low-light situations. A continuous shooting speed of up to 5.0 fps allows for fast action capture. 9 cross-type AF focus points help ensure crisp focus throughout the frame, and the Hybrid CMOS AF system enables speedy and accurate auto focus when shooting in Live View mode. In addition, the camera is compatible with STM lenses to achieve high quality Full HD (1920 x 1080) EOS movies for smooth, quiet AF performance.
Canon Rebel T5i Specification
Advanced image quality
Capture every detail with 18-megapixel resolution, and enjoy the smooth tones and accurate colours of 14-bit DIGIC 5 image processing. The Canon Rebel T5i / Canon 700D produces files big enough to print at large sizes or crop for alternative compositions without sacrificing quality.
Produce Full HD movie projects
Capture premium-quality movies at 1080p resolution, enjoying the right level of automatic or manual control for you. Autofocus is possible while filming, and a built in microphone enables the recording of high-quality stereo audio.
Keep up with fast moving action
Track moving objects accurately across the frame with an autofocus system comprising nine cross-type AF points. Continuous shooting at 5 fps for bursts of up to 22 frames means you’ll never miss that decisive moment.
Explore new viewpoints
The Canon Rebel T5i (Canon 700D) has a Vari-angle 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 ratio Clear View LCD II Touch screen that hinges away from the camera’s body and rotates through 270º. This enables video and still-image shooting from alternative viewpoints – such as over the top of crowds or from waist level.
Enjoy alternative access to the Canon Rebel T5i (Canon 700D) controls through a Vari-angle Clear View LCD II Touch screen. Shoot and focus with a single tap and use pinch and swipe gestures when reviewing images.
The Rebel T5i (Canon 700D) can capture images over a sensitivity range of ISO 100-12,800 (extendable to ISO 25,600), enabling hand-held shooting in low light without using flash.
Integrated Speedlite Transmitter
Explore creative lighting options by positioning Canon Speedlite flashes off camera and controlling them with the Rebel T5i’s (Canon 700D) Integrated Speedlite Transmitter.
Scene Intelligent Auto
Canon’s Scene Intelligent Auto technology analyses each scene and sets the most appropriate combination of cameras settings automatically.
Great results in difficult conditions
HDR Backlight control captures three different exposures and combines them into one, retaining shadow and highlight detail. The Canon Rebel T5i (Canon 650D) hand-held night scene mode captures multiple images at fast shutter speeds and blends them together for a blur-free result.
STM Lenses – perfect lenses for the Canon T6i
